Sometimes it's hard to say. But in all seriousness, when you are getting ready to decide about your breast augmentation surgery there are several things you'll need to consider. One of the things I always discuss with my patients here in Austin, Texas is where the incision will go. There are two main locations for where the incision for a breast augmentation can be placed. The most common location is in the inframammary fold. When placed in the infra-mammary fold I have a direct access to the pocket that we need to create to place your breast implant. This makes the procedure easier for me and allows for a slightly faster procedure. The downside is that you can have scars that can be visible in certain situations. However, proper scar management can decrease the visibility of these scars greatly. The peri-areolar incision is the next option and it's great for anyone that doesn't want there to be a lot of evidence for their breast augmentation. The reason being is that the peri-areolar incision hides really well. The incision is placed right where the darker skin of the areola meets the lighter skin of your breast. This allows the scars to almost disappear when they heal. The downside is that if you have small areola then we have to choose smaller implants because an 800 cc breast implant is not going to go through a 2 cm incision very easily. The other risks include possibly affecting breast feeding in the future.
