Plastic Surgeons aren’t made over night. My journey to become a plastic surgeon started with 5 years at University of Texas at Austin followed by four years of medical school at St Georges School of Medicine, 6 years of General Surgery training between Monmouth Medical Center, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital followed by 3 more years of Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery training at University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio Texas. Being a plastic surgeon isn’t always a glamorous job. I’m sharing this as an educational post to hopefully educate at least one person of how dangerous angle grinders can be. All it takes is a millisecond for the wheel to fly off or for it to kick back and injure you. This week I’ve had to take care of two different people where the angle grinder impacted their face causing significant injury. Be safe for those of you that use this piece of equipment and make sure to wear a face shield!
